Mad Max 2, Dances with Wolves; Apocalypto – it’s Hollywood and it’s all been seen through the lens of Australian Cinematographer Dean Semler ACS ASC, who returns to Australia as Guest of Honour for the Australian Cinematographers Society 50th anniversary celebration in Sydney from 28 May.
Dean will field a Q&A session at the conference after the screening of Apocalypto and will be Guest of Honour at the Golden Anniversary Dinner Annual Awards: just two of many highlight events at the 4-day Future of the Image ACS50 Conference and Exhibition, to be held at Sydney’s Overseas Passenger Terminal.
Dean’s ACS50 limelight will be shared with fellow Academy award winner Andrew Lesnie ACS ASC, cinematographer on the Lord of the Rings Trilogy and more recently I am Legend, as well as 41 other Australian image creators, as they share their experience and identify the technical, creative and commercial skills that Australia’s moving image artists will need to compete in a converging media landscape.
The Conference and Awards night will be supported by an exhibition of the most advanced high definition digital cinema technology as well as an international what’s-what of film and video cameras, lenses, support hardware and editing software.
