For the fifth year running Film Victoria, the New South Wales Film and Television Office (FTO), and the New Zealand Film Commission (NZFC) have combined to secure places for No Borders at the annual Independent Film Producer (IFP) Market in New York City. Three places will be offered to experienced Australian and New Zealand producers to attend the exclusive market, which only accepts 40 projects in total.
Selected producers will attend one-on-one meetings, informal roundtable discussions and social events at the market to showcase their production-ready projects to financiers, sales agents and international television buyers. Producers will be chosen based on the strength of their film projects in advanced development stage.
“This is a terrific opportunity for local producers to explore financing options for their project in the US market,” explained Film Victoria CEO Sandra Sdraulig. “We’re delighted to offer a Victorian producer the opportunity to present their project in a market-place where they can meet with valuable US contacts and discuss future opportunities.”
Linda Tizard, Acting Chief Executive of the FTO, said: “This is a great opportunity for another NSW producer to make invaluable contacts in the American market. Attendance at No Borders has now helped two NSW films to go into production.
Clubland’s Producer Rosemary Blight finalised the financing of that film at No Borders in 2004. The producers of South Solitary participated in 2006, and have now secured their finance and will be shooting later this year.”
“The NZFC is pleased to continue its partnership with the FTO and Film Victoria in sending projects to No Borders. This market continues to give New Zealand producers valuable exposure to the US market,” said NZFC Chief Executive, Dr Ruth Harley.
Film Victoria, the New South Wales Film and Television Office (FTO), and the New Zealand Film Commission (NZFC) will shortlist projects for final consideration by the No Borders IFP Selection Team.
The deadline for producers to apply for NZ producers is Thursday 24 April and Monday 28 April for both NSW and Victorian producers. For guidelines and application forms please visit www.film.vic.gov.au, www.fto.nsw.gov.au or www.nzfilm.co.nz.
