Australian feature film Sunday will have its international premiere at Toronto's 13th Annual Female Eye Film Film Festival in June where the drama has been nominated for best foreign feature and best of show.
The Female Eye Film Festival showcases the work of independent female directors from around the world and has been a mainstay on Toronto’s festival scene since it was founded in 2001 by writer/director/producer/actress Leslie Ann Coles.
Sunday director/writer/producer Michelle Joy Lloyd said, "Film is such a powerful medium, we must ask who is telling our stories. Diversity is important, as it allows for a different type of story to be told. Female Eye provides a platform for women directors of independent cinema to showcase their films. Our stories are relevant, but not often told. I'm excited Sunday has been selected to run in competition."
The film releases in Australia on May 2 in cinemas nationally, with a simultaneous Australian-first day and date launch on online streaming provider Stan, plus DVD, and via VOD platforms iTunes, Sony, Xbox, Google Play, Fetch TV, Vimeo on Demand, Reelhouse and Dendy Direct.
It stars award-winning actors Camille Keenan (Underbelly, Packed to the Rafters, Satisfaction) and Dustin Clare (Spartacus, Strike Back, Goddess, ANZAC Girls) who embraced the unique opportunity to make the film while Camille was pregnant with the couple’s son.
Eve and Charlie are about to have a baby, but are no longer together. After years of history and months of separation, they have 24 hours to find their way forward. Set in Christchurch, New Zealand one year after the earthquakes that devastated the city, it is a story like the city: one of past devastation and a chance at rebuilding.
Written by Camille and Dustin together with the director, Sunday is a classic tale of two people whose lives intertwine with the city they inhabit. While it is not an earthquake film, it is a story like the city of Christchurch: one of past devastation, beauty and a chance at rebuilding bigger and better than before.
