Western Australia took home silver on Sunday night with actress Tammy Clarkson (The Circuit) and children’s series Lockie Leonard both winning awards at the 2008 TV Week Logie Awards held in Melbourne.
Locally-produced series Lockie Leonard, which was shot entirely on location in and around south-west WA and based on the Tim Winton novels, won the industry-voted ‘Most Outstanding Children’s program’.
Producer Kylie du Fresne from Essential Viewing said the award provided a fantastic boost for the series.
“We are thrilled with Lockie Leonard’s Logie win on Sunday night, which further increases the profile of this wonderful series for our Australian audience,” Ms du Fresne said.
“We look forward to bringing more Lockie to the small screen in the near future.”
Ms Clarkson won the ‘Graham Kennedy Award for most outstanding new talent’ for her role in the acclaimed Indigenous prime-time drama, The Circuit, shot on location in Broome and the Kimberley.
Originally from Geraldton, Ms Clarkson received two Logie nominations for her portrayal of court clerk Bella Noble in the critically acclaimed series, which follows the chaotic and challenging world of the Kimberley ‘circuit’ court.
Ms Clarkson’s TV industry peers awarded her the ‘Graham Kennedy Award for Most Outstanding New Talent’. Previous recipients of this prestigious award include Chris Lilley (We Can Be Heroes, Summer Heights High) and Emma Lung (Stranded).
A second series of The Circuit will go into production later this year.
The Circuit and Lockie Leonard are both proudly supported by the State’s screen production agency, ScreenWest and Lotterywest.
