Healing in competition at Cannes Cinéphiles

Craig Monahan’s acclaimed film Healing has been selected to screen in two sections of this year’s Cannes Film Festival.

The 21th Cinema des Antipodes selection of Cannes Cinéphiles, Cannes May 13-25 Official Selection.

The 21th Cannes Cinéphiles, Prix Cannes Ecrans Seniors, Cannes May 13-25  – In Competition.

Healing is also in Official Selection at the 5th Festival Le Bout du Monde, Pézenas from May 8-10.

Since its Australian theatrical release in May  2014, Healing has screened at many film festivals around the world and has become a favourite film to screen in France.

The film opened the 13th Festival Regards d'Ailleurs, Filmer l'Australie et Nouvelle-Zélande, Dreux on March 22. It was also the closing night film at the 32th Festival International du Film d'Environnement (FIFE) in Paris on February 3.

Healing was also in official selection for the 9th Festival Rochefort Pacifique, Rochefort  in March.

Last year Healing was awarded Best Film (Audience) at the 16th Rencontres Internationales du Cinéma des Antipodes, Saint-Tropez  ("Festival des Antipodes").

“It’s exciting to know audiences from all different parts of the world are being touched by Healing and the film is showcasing Australia’s finest actors and filmmakers to the international markets,” said multi-award winning Australian director Craig Monahan.

Inspired by true events, Healing is a powerful, moving story of redemption, the discovery of hope and the healing of the spirit – in the most unlikely place of a low-security prison. The film stars Australian actor Don Hany (Lucky Miles) in a breakout performance and the hugely talented Australian actor Hugo Weaving (The Matrix, The Hobbit).

The supporting cast includes a stellar line of Australian talent including: Justine Clarke (Look Both Ways), Xavier Samuel (The Twilight Saga: Eclipse), Tony Martin (The Interview, Candy), Mark Leonard Winter (Van Diemen's Land), Jane Menelaus (The Dish), Robert Taylor (The Matrix) and Anthony Hayes (Animal Kingdom).

The drama has also been won the Australian Directors Guild’s Finders Award and the Directors award for Best Foreign Film at the Sedona Film Festival Arizona.
