Gold Coast funds short film

Bridie Carter in Nostalgia

Filmmakers at Evolve Film Productions were successfully granted financing through the Regional Arts and Development Fund in 2014 to produce a short film with television star, Bridie Carter.

Having now completed the short and privately screening it throughout last year, Nostalgia has finally been publicly released online.

Nostalgia stars Bridie Carter, acclaimed for her role as Tess McLeod in McLeod’s Daughters and most recently in Channel Seven’s 800 Words. Carter plays Carolyn, a mother struggling to support her young son and manage her depression. It was filmed over four days across locations in Southport and Coolangatta.

This demonstrates a continuing growth for new independent content being produced by local talent that is supported with financing from state art and film funds.

Writer/Director Jordan Thwaites says Nostalgia has taken over three years to get produced and without support from RADF, the project would probably still be in pre-production.

Though this counts as Mr. Thwaites’ first time directing, the team behind Nostalgia includes industry veterans including writer Vicki Englund (Home and Away) and composer Ryan Walsh (The Lovely Bones).

The fund was designed to support up and coming artists in Queensland and invests in their careers to help take their work to market and create sustainable futures.

Thwaites is now is working in television and producer Lauren-ann Smith is in post-production on a feature documentary.
