SUFFRAGETTE SUNDAY TO TAKE PLACE IN CINEMAS ACROSS AUSTRALIA THIS WEEKEND IN SUPPORT OF UN WOMEN
Suffragette Sunday takes place this coming weekend at cinemas across Australia. $1 from every ticket to the first session of SUFFRAGETTE on 17 January at participating cinemas will be donated to UN Women National Committee Australia.
A global champion for women and girls, UN Women is the United Nations entity responsible for promoting women’s empowerment and gender equality and was established to accelerate progress to meet the needs of women and girls worldwide. UN Women National Committee (NC) Australia raises funds for and awareness of UN Women’s vital work in the Pacific and around the world. “Advancing women’s leadership and participation is a key priority of UN Women. I am delighted that funds raised from this important film will go to programs that ensure women are represented and their voices heard.” said Julie McKay, Executive Director of UN Women National Committee Australia.
SUFFRAGETTE opened in Australian cinemas on 26 December and it stars Carey Mulligan, Helena Bonham Carter and Meryl Streep. SUFFRAGETTE is a thrilling drama that tracks the story of the foot soldiers of the early feminist movement, women who were forced underground to pursue a dangerous game of cat and mouse with an increasingly brutal State. SUFFRAGETTE is distributed in Australia by Transmission Films. Rowen Smith from Transmission Films comments: “SUFFRAGETTE is a wonderful film that focuses on the battle that women faced a century ago to achieve the right to vote. It seemed fitting to team up with UN Women as our charity partners on the Australian release of the film, as they continue the fight with their programs that promote empowerment and gender equality.”
