Sony strengthens BVM-X300 4K OLED Master Monitor with enforced capabilities
Updates include new firmware, HDMI input, second 3G/HD-SDI connection, enhanced features for High Dynamic Range production
SYDNEY, 3 August 2016 – Sony is introducing the second-generation BVM-X300 OLED master monitor, giving users more flexibility and more features for High Dynamic Range (HDR) and 4K production applications. Available from October 2016, the second generation master monitor is equipped with an updated Version 2 (BVM-X300 V2) firmware including additional HDR EOTF and function support, a new hardware with HDMI input for easy connection to cameras or Blu-ray players, and a second 3G/HD-SDI 4K input for effortless system integration.

The BVM-X300 V2 firmware update also delivers new display functionality for HDR production, including:

·       Hybrid Log Gamma HDR EOTF setting, which supports the new ITU-R BT.2100 standard;

·       New EOTF, S-Log 3 (Live HDR), which supports easier camera control for live production;

·       New one-touch relative contrast modes (1/2, 1/3 and 1/4), allowing display of HDR images with higher peak luminance; and

·       Faster access to the status menu page (Color space, EOTF, User Preset and more).

Current BVM-X300 owners who wish to include the HDMI and second SDI inputs on their monitor will need to contact a Sony service center as implementation will require hardware and software modifications, which is chargeable. Alternatively it is also possible to only upgrade the existing firmware and not add the additional inputs.

Since its release in early 2015, Sony’s BVM-X300 has been adopted by major post-production houses for color grading as well as monitoring and quality control on the sets of television shows and films. “This monitor has become the de facto reference standard for 4K and HDR grading in post-production suite, and it is also making its way on set and into mobile production,” said Mr. Anthony Kable, Senior Product Manager, Sony Australia & New Zealand. “The new updates enhance the adaptability of Sony’s BVM-X300 to meet the growing demands for production requirements.”

The revised price of generation two BVM-X300 will be announced separately.
