The Film and Television Institute (FTI) has announced Nathan McGuiness, the Creative Director at Los Angeles-based Kommitted Films, will act as a mentor for one of its KEYFRAME animation projects.
McGuiness is one of Australia’s most successful visual effects experts, having worked on blockbusters such as Minority Report, Moulin Rouge, Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, Black Hawk Down and the Pirates of the Carribean trilogy.
McGuiness will work with the creators of the KEYFRAME project, Global Sheila, from his LA base, using online technology to mentor and communicate with the Western Australian-based team.
The FTI’s KEYFRAME program allows innovative animation and new media projects to be developed while providing the newest recruits to the local animation industry a valuable opportunity to build skills in team work, communication and production experience by volunteering on projects.
Global Sheila is one of several projects included in the 2008 KEYFRAME program. The project aims to bring to life a new icon for Australian tourism that can be utilised in web based marketing, cartoons, commercials and films.
The project is currently recruiting 2D flash animators to create a series of short vignettes that will demonstrate the character’s key qualities and personality. Animators interested in joining the project should contact FTI Professional Development and Training Manager, Graeme Watson at gwatson@fti.asn.au
