AFTRS has made two new appointments, with Kirsten Downie started this week as director of marketing and Christina Alvarez assuming the new role of engagement manager on June 28.

Downie will be responsible for the promotion of AFTRS to students and stakeholders.

She joins AFTRS from Sydney's Australian Museum, where she was head of marketing and communications, and has previously worked at the National Gallery of Australia, the Art Gallery of New South Wales, the Sydney Opera House and Destination NSW.

Alvarez was most recently the CEO at Metro Screen. Before that she was GM at FBi 94.5fm and the deputy GM at the Community Broadcasting Association of Australia.

“At this energetic time of growth and change at AFTRS, I am delighted to welcome Kirsten and Christina to our leadership team", AFTRS CEO Neil Peplow said.

"Kirsten’s career is noted for its dynamism and the results she has delivered across both the public and private sectors, most particularly in the areas of strategic partnerships and audience development."

"Christina’s work with emerging screen practitioners is highly regarded by her colleagues across the industry. This new role will enable the school to broaden its focus across the community and tap into new seams of exciting talent.”
