The battle between car brands Ford and Holden is set to play out on the big screen this year via a new documentary being produced by WildBear Entertainment for Universal Pictures Content Group.

Narrated by actor Shane Jacobson, Ford vs. Holden (working title) will document the longstanding rivalry between the two auto heavyweights through a mix of fresh interviews and archive footage.

The project is being developed out of WildBear’s Woolloongabba studio under principal and producer, Veronica Fury, with support from Screen Queensland’s Screen Finance Program.

It’s not the first time the company has turned a spotlight on Australia’s motorsport history, having produced Kriv Stenders’ AACTA-nominated feature documentary on motor racing legend Peter Brock, Brock: Over the Top, in 2020.

Fury said the story of the two brands was well suited to the factual format.

“WildBear is so excited to continue working with Screen Queensland and Universal Pictures Content Group to tell the story of the rivalry between these two powerhouse brands and the impact they have had on Australian culture,” she said.

“Documentaries are an amazing way to reflect and deliver thought-provoking and captivating viewing experiences for audiences, and I am excited to bring this particular part out of history to the big screen.”

Screen Queensland acting chief creative officer Belinda Burns said the film was another example of WildBear Entertainment making quality content for the international market.

“This investment in Ford vs. Holden follows recent support for WildBear Entertainment’s acclaimed documentary Hating Peter Tatchell and the popular factual series Aussie Mega Mechanics,” she said.

“At Screen Queensland, we are committed to supporting Queensland-based screen companies and producers to create compelling content, for both local and international audiences, and we’re excited to invest in WildBear Entertainment’s latest feature.”

Ford vs. Holden will be released in cinemas mid-April.
