A DECADE OF DISCOVER DOWNUNDER

PRESS RELEASE

Channel Nine’s travel series Discover Downunder is celebrating its 10th year on air.

The program – at 4.30pm Saturdays on Nine – showcases the best of caravanning and camping around this great country, visiting the outstanding Top Tourist Parks and having incredible experiences along the way.

Touring Australia for 10 years is always going to create some amazing moments and the hosts, comedian Tim Smith and Olympic gold medallist Brooke Hanson, have plenty to share.

For Tim there’s definitely a water theme going on.

“I’ve swum with sharks at Port Lincoln, crocodiles in Darwin, sooty grunters (fish) on Hinchinbrook, leafies (seahorses) at the Yorke Peninsula and dolphins at Coffs Harbour,” says Tim.

“I’ve also swum with seals, eels, tuna, and Brooke Hanson. And just think about it – I get to go on holiday all year round, and the best part of all is the amazing people I meet along the way.

“My all-time favourite moment was when Catriona Rowntree was attacked by piranhas. No, wait, hang on – wrong show.”

Brooke has also tasted her fair share of adventure, from abseiling to wakeboarding and the high trapeze.

“Our ‘must do’s’ always include having a chicken parma at one of the local pubs so we can let our viewers know the best places to eat while they’re on the road. In the new series we visit some brand new destinations and the chicken parmas are the best we’ve ever eaten.

“It’s by far our best ever series, and with each new destination I always pinch myself and take a moment to appreciate just how lucky we are. I always tell everyone I’ve got the best job in the world.”
