The ABC has called for one-off documentary ideas to form a season of Family and the Future of Family in Australia.
The series will explore the constantly-evolving institution of family via filmmakers "who have something powerful and important to say" and "a range of styles and voices that will engage a prime-time audience on ABC1 and really get people talking,” according to ABC TV head of factual, Phil Craig.
Applications will be assessed on the strength of the central idea and the creative approach aimed at ABC1's Australian prime-time audience.
“The family is the most successful of all human institutions and we’re endlessly fascinated by it," Craig said. "So many of our most passionate conversations come back to family – what we love about them and what we hate, what we’d change and what we treasure – and so many of our most divisive political and social arguments directly impact upon it. That’s why we want to explore this time-honoured but constantly evolving institution through the eyes of Australia’s most talented filmmakers.”
