[Press Release by The Lantern Group]
With a brand new slate of courses, a fantastic new building located in the heart of the Entertainment Quarter in Sydney’s Moore Park and the largest number of students ever enrolled at the nation’s iconic film, television and radio School (AFTRS) – 2009 is set to be the liveliest and most productive on record.
Always at the forefront of change and able to adapt to the ever shifting media landscape, AFTRS has embraced a new approach for its course offerings for 2009 which has meant there are more places and opportunities for students to acquire relevant up to date training and education for the film, television and radio industries.
Today over 200 students commence their studies in the new purpose built facility located in the heart of Sydney’s screen precinct. The School, which relocated in May 2008, now stands side by side with production houses, major studios, post production companies and much more and is now able to provide better opportunities for more students to interact and collaborate with other screen arts and broadcasting professionals.
Today is also the first day of the inaugural Foundation Diploma – an introductory course created specifically for young and emerging filmmakers. AFTRS is pleased that so many of the people enrolled in this course are under 20 and are confident these young people will become the leading filmmakers of the future. Other courses starting today include a brand new Screenwriting course as well as the highly regarded Diplomas in Directing, Producing, Cinematography, Screen Music, Editing, Sound, Radio and Screen Business.
Another new addition for this years students is the opportunity to study specialist genres including horror, sci fi, musicals, mockumentary, romantic comedy and more.
AFTRS CEO Sandra Levy says: “This is an exciting time of year at AFTRS. We are looking forward to the energy and enthusiasm our new students will bring to the exciting new courses on offer this year and also and watching them soak up all there is to know about this industry”
