Crime drama Animal Kingdom has broken the $2.5 million mark in its third week at the box office.
The Australian feature took more than $534,000 – a drop of just 20 per cent in its third week – across 72 screens. Its screen average remains at a healthy $7427.
It climbed back up one spot to sixth place. The animated Shrek Forever After opened in first place after taking more than $4.89 million across 471 screens while another new release, comedy Get Him to the Greek, opened in second place with $2.39 million across 202 screens.
The Kings of Mykonos: Wog Boy 2 slipped from eighth place to slot 11, taking just $87,322 in its fifth week. It has now taken $4.79 million in total, ranking it as the second biggest Australian film this year (behind Bran Nue Dae) and the 45th biggest of all time.
Box office data for Aussie drama Lou, starring John Hurt, had not been reported to the MPDAA by Monday afternoon. However, a spokeswoman said the first four days look likely to tally almost $25,000 across limited screens. The film was released on June 17 and is being distributed by Kojo Pictures.
Meanwhile, Gillian Armstrong's documentary Love, Lust & Lies is continuing to play across six screens, pulling in another $3805 over the weekend.
