As many as 19 Australian directors will be offered places at Screen Producers Australia’s Screen Forever conference in a new partnership between SPA and the Australian Directors’ Guild.
Supported by Screenwest, Create NSW, Film Victoria and the South Australian Film Corporation, the directors will join the SPA “Ones to Watch” initiative, a special program of panel discussions, workshops and networking events to engage with production companies and other attendees.
The directors will also have the chance to present projects they have developed and are ready for production at SPA Connect.
ADG CEO Kingston Anderson said: “This is something we have been discussing with SPA and different production companies for some time and it is great to see it come to fruition. It enables directors who have been developing projects to partner with producers and production companies and also showcases the immense directing talent we have in this country.”
SPA CEO Matt Deaner added: “SPA Connect at Screen Forever evolves each year to support targeted creative and business partnerships across all aspects of the producing mix. This year we are delighted to be working with the ADG and other industry elevator programs to connect producers directly with directors and other creatives.
“With over $99 million worth of deals done at Screen Forever last year, we look forward to being inspired by the productions given seed this year.”
The directors will be drawn from all over Australia with the support of their state agencies, which will ensure a diverse and nationally represented group of directors. The program will include:
• first access to roundtables and Ready, Steady, Pitch!;
• special networking events;
• a dedicated round table in SPA Connect;
• various public sessions and exclusive sessions with the SPA “Ones to Watch”; plus
• access to all the session at the conference including social functions.
To apply, directors will need to go to the ADG website and fill out the online application. Applications close at midnight on Friday 19 October. Successful applicants will be notified on October 29.
Screen Forever runs from November 20-22 at Melbourne’s Crown Conference Centre.
