Chaser’s Taylor to host ACS50 awards

Chris Taylor, popular and controversial host of ABC1 and ABC2’s Chaser’s War on Everything will have some extremely tall poppies as targets when he hosts the Australian Cinematographers Society’s 50th Anniversary Annual Awards Dinner in Sydney on May 31st.

Joining Chris will be Guest of Honour Dean Semler ACS ASC, whose Academy Award-winning cinematography on Dances with Wolves and more recently on Mel Gibson’s Apocalypto captivates peers and audiences around the world.

Dean will be amongst fellow Academy Award winners Russell Boyd ACS ASC (Master and Commander) and Andrew Lesnie (Lord of the Rings) as the ACS celebrates 50 years of support for Australian cinematography, and hands out the 2008 Golden Tripods and coveted Milli Award for Best Australian Cinematographer.

David Gribble ACS (World’s Fastest Indian) and a former Milli award winner, Scott Hicks and Geoffrey Simpson ACS (director and cinematographer for Shine) will be among over 400 guests, representing the cream of Australian film and television.

Renowned war cinematographer David Brill, subject of John Little’s book The Man Who Saw Too Much and recent nominee for TV WEEK’s Logies Hall of Fame will also join one of Australia’s most prolific documentary makers and Milli award winner for documentary RATS, Piet De Vries ACS at the gala event.
