China and Singapore co-pro treaties now online

The Australia-China Co-production Agreement and the Australia-Singapore Co-production Agreement signed last year were tabled in Parliament on 12 March 2008 as part of Australia‘s treaty approval process. The two treaties are expected to come into force in the second half of 2008.

The text of the Co-production Agreements is now available on the AFC’s website.

As in the case of Australia‘s other co-production agreements, the two new treaties will provide for the provision of ‘national treatment’ and will ‘unlock’ the benefits which each government provides to its local productions. Each treaty will require the producers to ensure that there is a minimum creative and financial contribution from each co-production partner of 20%.

Treaty co-productions with Singapore and China are eligible to be treated as projects with a significant Australian content and may therefore access the Australian Screen Production Incentive – Producer Offset.
