Daina Reid’s Run Rabbit Run starts production this week across Victoria and South Australia, with Damon Herriman and Greta Scacchi due to star alongside lead Sarah Snook.
Written by novelist Hannah Kent, the horror/thriller follows a fertility doctor (Snook) whose grasp on the cycle of life is put to the test when her young daughter Mia, to be played by newcomer Lily LaTorre, begins to exhibit increasingly strange behaviour.
Other additions to the cast include Trevor Jamieson, Neil Melville, Naomi Rukavina, Georgina Naidu, Genevieve Morris, Katherine Slattery, and another newcomer, Sunny Whelen.
Snook was announced as the lead in December, replacing Elisabeth Moss.
The script is based on an original idea developed with producers Anna McLeish and Sarah Shaw of Carver Films. The Los Angeles-based XYZ Films is executive producing, financing and handling world sales. Other executive producers include Storyd Group’s Deanne Weir and Olivia Humphrey, and Filmology’s Jack Christian and D.J. McPherson.
Run Rabbit Run will be shot by director of photography is Bonnie Elliott, with production design by Vanessa Cerne, costume design by Marion Boyce and make up and hair design by Angela Conte. The editor is Sean Lahiff, and casting director is Allison Meadows, Mullinars Casting.
Major production investment comes from XYZ and Screen Australia, in association with Film Victoria, the South Australian Film Corporation and Soundfirm.
Umbrella and Maslow Entertainment will handle ANZ distribution, while XYZ films is handling worldwide sales.
