Press release from Double Negative
Double Negative Visual Effects is delighted to announce that Nathan McGuinness (Founder, CEO & Creative Director of Asylum VFX) has joined Double Negative Singapore as its Creative Director.
In the 13 years that Guinness has been based in LA he has worked on a staggering 81 films. His most recent projects include Unstoppable, The Sorcerer's Apprentice and The Curious Case of Benjamin Button – for which he won a BAFTA and VES for Best Visual Effects in 2009.
Amongst his many other award nominations, in 2004, his work on Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World earned him an Academy Award nomination for Best Visual Effects.
Double Negative is Europe's largest Film VFX facility with a staff of 850+ and is widely considered to be one of the fore leaders in the industry. It opened its Singaporean operation in 2009.
The company is currently working on John Carter of Mars, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2, Captain America: The First Avenger and Paul.
Recent credits include Inception, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1, Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, The Sorcerer’s Apprentice and Iron Man 2.
Alex Hope, Double Negative’s Managing Director, says "We've admired the work Nathan and the team at Asylum did for a long time, and enjoyed the collaboration our two companies had in working on The Sorcerer’s Apprentice this year. We recognised kindred spirits during that process and were incredibly sad when we heard of its demise.
"We are so excited that Nathan is now joining Double Negative to creatively head up our operation in Singapore. Nathan's enthusiasm and talent will assist us in continuing to grow the technical and creative capabilities of the company both in London and Singapore.”
Says McGuinness, “It’s an honour to be a part of the Double Negative team. I have a deep respect for Matt and Alex, they have independently built one of the leading VFX houses in the world and pulled together a team of visionaries that are unsurpassed in the industry.
"They, like I, believe in finding the best talent, treating them well and executing the best VFX. VFX has gone global and the opportunity to be a part of DNeg Singapore blew me away.”
McGuinness’s new role will still see him maintaining a regular presence in L.A., where he will continue to foster relationships with clients and help bring directors’ visions to life.
