Film Australia congratulates the filmmakers behind Constructing Australia: The Bridge and Captain Cook: Obsession and Discovery nominated this morning for TV Week Logie Awards in the “Most Outstanding Documentary” category.
The Bridge was the first in the three-part historical series – Constructing Australia – produced for Film Australia’s Making History initiative.
The documentary marks the 75th anniversary of the Sydney Harbour Bridge, combining archival images and dramatic storytelling to bring to life one of the greatest engineering feats in Australia’s history. When it aired on ABC Television last year it attracted an audience of over 1.2 million viewers.
The Bridge was directed and produced by Simon Nasht, who also wrote the script. Renee Kennedy was co-producer and Alex West was Executive Producer for Film Australia.
Captain Cook: Obsession and Discovery is an Australia/Canada co-production produced as part of Film Australia’s National Interest Program.
This four-part series, which recently won a Manning Clark House National Cultural Award, follows geographer, historical consultant and bestselling author Vanessa Collingridge as she journeys around the world in the wake of one of the greatest explorers of all time – Captain James Cook.
Captain Cook was written and directed by Wain Fimeri, Paul Rudd and Matthew Thomason. The Australian producer was Tony Wright with Paul Rudd as series producer. Stephen Amezdroz was executive producer for Cook Films. Mark Hamlyn was executive producer for Film Australia.
“Film Australia is absolutely delighted with two Logie nominations, especially as these documentaries are about two icons of Australian history–the Sydney Harbour Bridge and Captain Cook,” said Film Australia CEO Daryl Karp. “It means there is a real appetite for quality history television on our screens and I congratulate all filmmakers involved.”
