Film labs on how to better connect films with audiences

Screen Australia is pleased to announce two one-day Film Labs for experienced feature practitioners with international distribution expert Peter Buckingham.

The labs will focus on developing a greater understanding of how audience-centred thinking is brought into the creative and marketing process and the value it can deliver to projects.

Peter Buckingham will lead both the one-day lab in Sydney, in partnership with Screen NSW, on Wednesday 11 March and in Melbourne, in partnership with Film Victoria, on Monday 16 March.

This initiative will provide an opportunity to experiment with strategies, marketing plans and production processes by putting the audience at the heart of thinking. It will be interactive and cooperative, utilising techniques and tools from various design-thinking frameworks.

Participants will come away with new perspectives, ways of thinking and ideas that can help their projects by improving their audience’s experience, reach and engagement.

The labs are open to professional producers who have at least one completed and released feature film credit and are currently working on another feature film at any stage in the production cycle, but prior to release.

Peter Buckingham is a thinker, strategist analyst and doer in film and media, with particular focus on connecting audiences with creative work. His work has covered all aspects of production, distribution and exhibition and includes high-profile projects, including the creation of the world’s first Digital Screen Network (DSN) in the UK and the pioneering Find Any Film website. Thirty years in the private and public sectors has given Peter a broad overview of the issues and challenges facing individual artists, businesses and organisations in maximising reach to, and engagement with, audiences and consumers. He is a skilled communicator, who speaks and teaches around the world on how best to reach audiences in this changing world.

Cost is $35. To apply for the Sydney or Melbourne Film Labs visit the Screen Australia website and submit a statement of claims by COB Friday 27 February.
