Flickerfest is going green

Press release from Flickerfest

FLICKERFEST presented by ING DIRECT, is painting the beach green with its proven and dedicated commitment to sustainable environmental principals and putting on a ‘green’ show in every sense.

Focusing again this year on films with environmental issues through its GreenFlicks environmental competition, FLICKERFEST presented by ING DIRECT is excited about finding and presenting films that evoke a sustainable and ecologically green message.

Last year’s GreenFlicks winner was 'Coalition of the Willing'; directed by Knife Party, written by Tim Rayner and produced by Simon Robson. While highly commended in 2011, another film, 'Waste Not' had its world premiere at last year’s festival and has since gone on to be selected for numerous key environmental film festivals. These include the Barcelona International Environment Film Festival, the Melbourne Environment Film Festival and Ecofilms. 'Waste Not' was also accepted into the Cannes Film Festival’s Short Film Corner.

FLICKERFEST’s Festival Director BRONWYN KIDD states: “Presenting any film event has environmental impacts and at FLICKERFEST we are very passionate about minimising our carbon footprint as much as possible through a strong commitment to not only showcasing important green messages but also through active environmental consciousness across all of our festival activities. We are committed to presenting the greenest film festival in Australia.”

The green focus and experience at FLICKERFEST doesn’t just stop at what’s on screen. In order to put on an environmentally sensitive and aware festival, filmgoers will also be served a selection of organic beverages and foods. Organic partners for the festival include Rosnay Organic Wines, Phoenix beverages and yummy organic food from O-Organics and the Bondi Organic Bakery will also be available.

FLICKERFEST is Australia’s only Academy®TM accredited and BAFTA recognised short film festival and kicks off the summer cinema season under the stars at Bondi Beach, screening the best short films from Australia and the world in the chilled and iconic location of the Bondi Pavilion from Friday 6th January to Sunday 15th January. In 2012 it celebrates its 21st birthday.

FLICKERFEST presented by ING DIRECT is the must-attend summer event not to be missed! Bite sized chunks of great cinema!
