Richard Freudenstein, the CEO and Managing Director of Australia’s biggest pay tv platform Foxtel, will be the guest in a special one-on-one conversation with Bob Campbell, Managing Director of Screentime at the Screen Forever: SPAA Conference 2013 on Wednesday, 20 November at 11:15am.
Richard Freudenstein was appointed CEO of Foxtel in November 2011 and has continued the work of his predecessor Kim Williams in positioning the company at the forefront of innovation in a rapidly changing media landscape. With a net profit before tax for the 2013 year of $229 million, Foxtel under Freudenstein’s leadership has had a successful couple of years. It has completed the Austar merger (to form a single national subscription television business), produced award-winning coverage during the London Olympics, launched Foxtel Go, Foxtel Play and Foxtel Movies services, finalised major contents deals with HBO, the BBC and Disney and will launch Presto, a new movie streaming service later this year.
Prior to joining Foxtel for the second time (he held senior roles in the company during the 1990s), Freudenstein was CEO of News Digital Media and CEO of The Australian. He also spent seven years at BSkyB, including six as Chief Operating Officer.
Foxtel currently has a slate of 50 local productions commissioned from 30 independent production companies, with titles as varied at Wentworth, Australia’s Next Top Model, Selling Houses Australia, Paddock to the Plate, Outback Coroner and The Train.
Foxtel is one of Australia’s most significant media companies, spending around $600 million each year on Australian content with its subscription partners. It delivers over 200 digital channels across cable, satellite and broadband to 2.3 million subscribing homes, and directly employs 2,500 people.
