Press release from WA Screen Academy
Limousines, glamorous dresses, red carpet, glitz, photographers and a packed auditorium. Hollywood? No. This was the screening of Boundaries, the collection of films made by the 2011 WA Screen Academy and Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA) students who were thrilled to see their hard work hit the big screen at the iconic Luna cinema in Leederville on September 29 2011.
The annual screening is well known for displaying some of the best emerging talent in the WA screen industry. Each year the WA Screen Academy directors, writers, producers, cinematographers and editors join forces with WAAPA actors, art directors, costume designers, lighting technician, sound designers and composers to produce six festival-quality short films.
The event attracts industry professionals from all over Perth including Media World Pictures, Storyteller Media Group, WBMC, Siamese, Prospero Productions, CM Films, Spank Effects, and many prominent local filmmakers. Boundaries was officially opened by Ian Booth, Chief Executive of ScreenWest – Western Australia’s screen funding and development agency.
Several students were selected from the high quality of films for awards and commendations (full list below). The students continued celebrations with friends and industry at the Niche Bar & Lounge in Leederville.
WA Screen Academy Director John Rapsey says the show has become a major event on the WA film industry calendar.
“It’s great to see this event attended by so many key players of the WA film industry. The students will be looking for work in a few months and this is their big chance to impress local industry leaders. The evening was dubbed a huge success by all.”
Boundaries DVDs are on sale from the WA Screen Academy for $15. For more information contact the WA Screen Academy at wascreenacademy@ecu.edu.au.
