With 30 fantastic movies, including a retrospective of rarely-seen features from the German Democratic Republic, the Audi
Festival of German Films 2009 looks set for a memorable 8th season when it screens around Oz from mid-April.
And to help celebrate, we’re delighted to announce that two of Germany’s hottest young actors, who are both fluent in
English, will be visiting Australia as guests of the Festival:
Anna Maria Mühe (Starring in: NOVEMBER CHILD)
The daughter of the late, famed German actor Ulrich Mühe (THE LIVES OF OTHERS), Anna Maria made her cinema debut in BIG GIRLS DON’T CRY. Despite her youth she has already won several awards including Best Actress at the copenhagen and Las Palmas International Film Festivals (2004) and Best Young Actress at Austria’s Undine Awards (2007). In NOVEMBER CHILD, she plays a young woman who embarks on a journey between present and past, East and West, to learn the truth about her background, and her mother. Anna Maria’s next film is THE COUNTESS, a lavish period drama, in which she stars alongside Julie Delpy, William Hurt and Daniel Brühl.
Robert Stadlober (Starring in: KRABAT & SUMMER STORM)
A star on the rise, Robert made his acting debut aged 13 in 1995 and to date has featured in over 40 films and TV shows, gathering many acting awards in the process. His credits include CRAZY, which was a massive box office success in his native Germany, as well as former Festival films SOPHIIIIE! and PLAY IT LOUD! He is also passionate about music and was lead singer in the rock band Gary and has his own music label, Siluh Records.
For the Festival, Robert stars alongside David Kross (THE READER) in the box office hit KRABAT, based on the famed fantasy novel, as well as the coming-of-age drama SUMMER STORM He will next be seen starring alongside Dougray Scott in LOVE ME FOREVER.
Also in town during the Festival will be renowned German film and TV critic, Christian Buß and famed writer, Stefan Aust. Christian is the online voice of Germany’s leading news magazine Der Spiegel and a regular contributor to magazines such as the German edition of Rolling Stone. He will participate in the Festival’s panel discussions covering Germany’s film history and discuss the current state of German cinema.
Stefan Aust is author of The Baader Meinhof Complex (and co-wrote the screenplay for the film adaptation). THE BAADER MEINHOF COMPLEX will open the Festival in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane, courtesy of Icon Film Distribution.
Presented by the Goethe-Institut in conjunction with German Films, the Audi Festival of German Films 2009 will screen in Sydney, Melbourne, Perth and Brisbane as follows:
