Gong fest awards top gong

A chilling black and white sci-fi tale about an alternate future where Germany triumphs in World War II has taken out the top prize at the 12th Short Sited Film Festival, held in Wollongong last weekend.

Wollongong resident Simon Luckhurst’s film Christmas Bonus struck a cord with the festival judges, and netted him a prize pack valued at over $5000.

Other winners were:

Audience Favourite: Hey Timothy! directed by Toby Morris and Nicholas P. Aplin;

Sci-Fi All Ages: Into The Heart directed by Nick Hansen and Phillip MacDonald;

National Open All Ages: Animal Instincts by Cameron Edser and Michael Richards; and,

Local Open All Ages: The Way Wollongong Was directed by Daniel Stawanski and Patrick Williamson.

Festival Director Tom Subjak said Wollongong residents who missed out on the show would be able to pick up a free DVD giveaway with the Illawarra Mercury soon.

Short Sited has been the Illawarra’s largest and longest running film festival since 1996.
