Heart of Gold fest seeks shorts

The 8th Heart of Gold International Short Film Festival (HOGISFF or HOG for short) is calling for submissions from all filmmakers who have recently produced short films.

Heart of Gold 2015 will see more than 120 films screened (in competition, and out of competition) in Gympie, Queensland from October 8-11 2015.

HOG’s artistic directors (or self-described “film prospectors”) are on the lookout for short films (up to 30 minutes in length) from all genres that best capture the festival’s unique vision.

'We are looking for short films that beat with a rich vein of humour, and a good, strong heart,' said HOG artistic director, Mandy Lake.

'We have our eyes peeled for shorts that are positive, witty, whimsical, entertaining, joyous, uplifting, quirky, enlightening and ground breaking.

'The films can be edgy, they can be thought-provoking and they can be downright hilarious – as long as they beat with a good heart, and are sure to leave audiences feeling uplifted or enriched in some way.'

This year’s HOG award categories include: Best Short Film, Best Australian Film, Best Student Film, Screener’s Choice Award, Best Cinematography, Best Narrative, Most Inspirational Film and Artistic Directors’ Award.

'We’ve already unearthed some exceptionally HOG-worthy films both locally and abroad, and can’t wait to see what new gold is paved,' said Ms Lake.

'Last year’s Best Short Film winner, The Phone Call, went on to take out the Academy Award for ‘Short Film – Live Action’.

'With a pot of prize money totalling $12,000, a whole new slate of award categories, and its reputation for showcasing filmic excellence, Heart of Gold is not to be missed on this year’s international film festival calendar.'

Early bird submissions via reelport close June 1 with the extended deadline of July 18.
