I Love This Place set for cinema roll-out

Musical documentary I Love This Place will premiere in Australian cinemas from mid-October.

Sydney’s eastern suburbs wrap around one of the world's most spectacular coastlines. Director and lifelong resident Steven Salgo invites us into his backyard in the film.

Unlike so many who can’t wait to get away from it all, Salgo found that everything he needed was already on his doorstep. The film unfolds around a year; drawing an intimate portrait of the energy, the unexpected and the daily life of this piece of paradise. As he documents his romance with 'home ' it’s easy to see why Salgo loves this place.

While the sea dominates everything Salgo’s camera observes and hypnotic shots of pounding waves and the devastatingly beautiful landscape are plentiful, this is more than just a surf movie. His playful kaleidoscope of rich images salutes the myriad of characters who inhabit the area and how the ocean energises these people fortunate enough to live within its aura. The region’s architecture and events as well as the degrading coastal environment are also highlighted.

The power of the wind, rain and, of course, the sea, is integral to savouring the area’s innate glories. Documenting the man’s romance with nature – including human nature – Salgo’s images are lovingly blanketed in an exquisite bespoke score by composer David Roberts that ranges from jazzy lightness to symphonic might. The perfect tone and mood to support the images and the buttresses and arches of this film, leading the viewer, from face to face, locale to locale, and season to season. David’s piece puts song into the film’s voice. At the end of 72 delightful minutes, it’s easy to see why Steven Salgo ' loves this place. The film won a prestigious Award of Merit from The IndieFEST 2014 Film Awards.
