‘Cage Dive’.
Sales agent Odin’s Eye Entertainment has secured multiple deals for Gerald Rascionato’s thriller Cage Dive in the lead-up to Berlin’s European Film Market.
North American rights have been acquired by Grindstone Entertainment. The film will be distributed by Lionsgate Home Entertainment, anticipating a multi-platform release this summer, which includes theatrical release in 15 markets.
Grindstone’s head of acquisitions Stan Wertlieb said Cage Dive “lends a whole new dimension to that which scares the living hell out of us.”
“Audiences are going to be left with heart palpitations and sweaty palms.”
Odin’s Eye CEO Michael Favelle and SVP international distribution Martin Gallery have also closed deals with Italy (Eagle Pictures), Turkey (Siyahbeyaz Film), Russia (Luxor), China (Bravos), Japan (New Select), Malaysia (Red Pictures), Middle East (Phoenicia), South Korea (Scene and Sound), Vietnam (Ram Indo), and Mexico, Argentina, Paraguay, Uruguay and Latin American (Gussi), Central America, Chile (Prolat), Peru, Equador & Bolivia (Delta).
“Buyers have been extremely receptive to the suspense and scares of Cage Dive with most distributors committing to theatrical releases. With a number of territories in discussions, we anticipate closing the remaining territories in Berlin,” said Favelle.
An Australian distribution deal is in advanced negotiation, Favelle told IF.
Cage Dive follows three American tourists who are making an audition tape for a reality show by filming their most intense activity: shark cage diving in the waters off the coast of South Australia. A catastrophic turn of events leaves them stranded in baited water, surrounded by hungry Great White sharks, turning their audition tape into a documentation of survival.
The film marks Rascionato’s debut feature, and was produced by the filmmaker’s Just One More Productions and Charles Barsamian’s Exit Strategy Productions.
