Press release from Ignition Films
The short film, directed by Luke Mayze and starring Guy Edmonds, called "It's a Treat" win's Best Comedy at the 2011 NYC Short Film Festival held recently in New York City on 23rd and 24th September. Held in Tribeca the festival aims to showcase provocative and entertaining short films from around the world. Both Luke and Guy attended the festival after having the film showcased at the Burbank International Film Festival the week prior. "It's always nice to win an award and be appreciated for what you have done. We were up against some good films" says Luke Mayze.
It's a Treat was shot in one day on a budget of $1,000. It tells the story of a young girl, Monique, who is stalked by her ex-boyfriend and who desperately tries to win her back by comparing her to a roast dinner as opposed to fast food.
Luke is currently in post-production on another short film, Silver Stiletto, about a vigilante drag queen which he hopes will have exposure at a major festival like Sundance in 2013. It re-unites many of the cast and crew of It's a Treat, including actors Natalie Trent, Guy Edmonds, Peter Adams, and Director of Photography, Graeme McMahon. To date, Luke and his films have won a total of 15 local and international awards over a ten year career that includes 14 short films.
Working with Brisbane production company, Ignition Films, Luke is also in development with his first feature film, Moving Pavlova, based on his award winning first short film which won the Warner Roadshow Queensland New Filmmakers Award in 2002.
