Press release from Blue Moutains Film Festival
The 2011 Blue Mountains Film Festival (formerly the Katoomba Short Film Festival),is being held at Scenic World, Katoomba on October 13, 14 and 15 against the stunning backdrop of the Three Sisters and the Jamison Valley.
To celebrate the fourth Blue Mountains Film Festival there will be a range of special highlights in the three day Festival programme including the screening of high profile entry The Telegram Man starring Sigrid Thornton and Jack Thompson, and the premiere of a locally made feature film, Last Ride shot by James Phillips.
Last Ride follows a group of mountain bike riders who find themselves in trouble while riding through the ‘Devils Wilderness’ in the Blue Mountains. Director/producer Phillips has shot the film all in one take, in real time and from the perspective of the main character, so from a technical viewpoint it is quite an achievement.
Due to an overwhelming response for entries into the event the Festival has also created a category screening entitled ‘Mountains Made’.
Another exciting new event this year is the Filmmakers discussion and Q&A forum at the Fairmont Resort where the topic of the panel discussion will be 'Making Short Films – How, Why & What Next?'. On the panel will be four feature makers and a 2011 Tropfest winner.
The Blue Mountains Film Festival wraps with the Awards night on Saturday the 15th where lucky winners will be presented with a ‘Yowie’ – the Festival’s new award statuette, created by Blue Mountains designer Paul Begg.
