Maxi Shield: From Maxi To Mini

Get set to have your socks knocked off (and your stereotypes blown away) by the reality show to end them all when the biggest loser becomes the biggest winner… in From Maxi to Mini.

Join famous Sydney stand-up comic and drag queen, Maxi Shield, in her quest to lose 15 kilos in 12 weeks – and fit into a fabulous frock (the same one Liz Hurley famously wore to the Oscars) in time for the star-studded drag queens’ night of nights, the DIVAs!

Maxi is one of Australia’s most prominent and flamboyant full-time drag artists.  Comic and columnist, she has closed ‘straight’ Olympic games and opened gay ones, laid them in the aisles at comedy clubs, theatres, numerous Mardi Gras and Sleaze Balls and achieved industry and public acclaim through her performances.

In this not-so-straight ‘frockumentary’, she puts herself in the hands of prominent fitness trainer Katy Try with a challenge more terrifying even than a bucks’ night in the ‘burbs:  to fit into a size 12 in 12 weeks!
How will Maxi – who made her name with self-effacing ‘fat chick’ gags – handle the pressure? Will her efforts be applauded by ‘the girls’ or mocked with bitchy gossip? And, if she succeeds, will she be – literally – less of the comic she was before?

Produced by Justin Green & Zoltan Deak for Delicatessen Films, and sponsored by City Gym, From Maxi to Mini is a hilarious romp that anyone and everyone will enjoy.

With a new, cheeky – but completely inoffensive – twist on the classic weight loss show formula, it touches chords and pushes buttons that are close to home for most. It also raises some fascinating philosophical questions about self-image, self-respect and self-serve!

Don’t miss the glittering pink-carpet premiere screening at 8pm on Sat 28 June, at City Gym, 107 Crown Street, East Sydney. Tickets $12; bookings 9360 6247

Maxi will be there in all her finery – and finest form – to welcome you.
