CinéfestOZ, the inaugural French Australian Film Festival held 21-25 August, will screen the Western Australian Premiere thriller Mystery Road in the City of Bunbury, and will also be showing at the City of Busselton, as part of its exciting film line-up.
“Opening CinéfestOZ in Bunbury with a formidable Australian film such as Mystery Road is an appropriate way to open this event in the region’s capital,” said Festival Director Malinda Nixon.
The black tie Gala evening at BREC will be held Thursday, 22 August, beginning with canapés and refreshments and a community red carpet event.
“David Jowsey, the film’s Producer, will lead an insightful Q & A session after the film, which will add another dimension to the CinéfestOZ audience experience.
“We were thrilled to host this film for WA audiences as a first, given the fantastic reviews Mystery Road received following its World Premiere screening at the Sydney Film Festival recently.”
Mystery Road is a gripping murder-mystery set in outback Australia, centered around Detective Jay Swan (Aaron Pedersen) who has returned to his home town to investigate the murder of a teenage indigenous girl who has been found in a drain under the highway outside of town.
Directed and written by Ivan Sen, Mystery Road features an all-star-cast of actors including Aaron Pedersen, Hugo Weaving, Jack Thompson, Ryan Kwanten and Tasma Walton.
“Aaron Pederson delivers a solid performance as the “Good Sheriff” as Detective Jay Swan in this Western-style thriller, which is not only visually -impressive but it is also a highly credible and entertaining film.”

The gala CinéfestOZ Opening Night begins with canapés, refreshments and sophisticated scores from a jazz trio. This is a dazzling community red carpet event where VIPs and stars chat with the crowds and enjoy the finest Bunbury hospitality.
