Odin’s Eye Entertainment (OEE), today announced its collaboration on the bushranger Western The Legend of Ben Hall following a very successful 25-minute Kickstarter short campaign for Matthew Holmes which exceeded its subscriber target by over 50%.
Written and directed by Holmes (Twin Rivers, The Artifice), The Legend of Ben Hall tells the true story of the infamous Australian bushranger in the last turbulent months of his life, and the circumstances surrounding his controversial execution by police in 1865.
“This is an intense blend of action and drama. Audiences will be stunned to learn that everything actually happened” says director Matthew Holmes. “We don’t portray Ben Hall as a hero or a villain, but rather the complex man that he was, struggling with his rapid fall from grace.”
Odin’s Eye will also don a producer's cap working with Holmes to expand the successful short into a feature length motion picture adding an epic, visual scope to the characters and the story.
Sydney new-comer Jack Martin, who bears a striking resemblance to the real-life outlaw, brings a vivid reality and humanity to the role.
The Legend of Ben Hall is the first in a proposed trilogy of ‘companion features’ and is currently in production and scheduled for a completion in mid 2015 coinciding with the 150th anniversary of Ben Hall’s death.
OEE's CEO Michael Favelle has already kicked-off pre-sales at this year's AFM.
