Panasonic Australia is encouraging homegrown developers to create locally-focused applications for the parent company’s new global IPTV service, VIERA Connect.
The company recently launched its VIERA Connect Developers portal which will allow developers to create content for the cloud-based IPTV service found on new Panasonic VIERA televisions. The portal can be found at http://developer.vieraconnect.com.
Matt Pearce, Group Marketing Manager, VIERA, Panasonic Australia said Australian-oriented services were already popular with Panasonic viewers.
"We've already found Australian internet enabled services such as ABC iView to be in demand on VIERA Connect and believe there is a big opportunity for developers here to offer local content. There is a groundswell of interest in IPTV offerings and a thirst for content that can be enjoyed by Australians and VIERA TV users across the globe."
Panasonic is one of the world’s leading TV manufacturers and innovators. The company’s new ‘SMART VIERA’ models make the TV the hub of the loungeroom, with a host of features including catch-up TV, videos, music, interactive games, health and fitness apps and social networking.
“With this new open platform service, Panasonic can further expand its offering and provide new content and viewing experiences to suit different viewers’ lifestyles. The VIERA Connect interface is designed so it can be easily enjoyed while relaxing in the loungeroom – users simply download the app they like from the simple GUI operation, and can customise their menu by grouping commonly used apps and displaying them on the screen,” Matt Pearce added.
The new portal allows developers to take advantage of the quick response and rich multimedia HD capabilities of the VIERA Connect platform.

The newly launched VIERA Connect Developers portal will use market leading streamlined processes to improve time to market for application developers and media companies.
The portal site – hosted by Accedo Partner Programs on behalf of Panasonic – will further expand the number of attractive applications for VIERA Connect by providing access to VIERA Connect's application program interface (API), technical information, reference code and other assistance required to develop VIERA Connect applications.
VIERA Connect, now available in around 100 countries around the world since launching earlier this year, offers a wide range of applications, such as video-on-demand services, music, sports, games, health and fitness, to meet the needs unique to each market. By launching this site, Panasonic will significantly expand its lineup of innovative applications and will provide users with new TV viewing experiences and entertainment in their living rooms.
