Peter Weir received a tribute at the Telluride Film Festival over the weekend, where his new film The Way Back had its world premiere.
He was one of three screen artists (including Colin Firth and Claudia Cardinale) to be presented with the festival's Silver Medallion, which honours their significant contribution to the world of cinema.
In the footage below, Weir tells an opening night crowd about his favorite invention in cinema: the close-up.
The film is set to open in the US on January 21 on more than 600 screens. Weir recently told Deadline Hollywood about the difficult path the film has had to the big screen and its chances of an Oscar nomination – check out the interview here.
