Press release from Pip Miller
Young actors will be given the chance to learn the ropes alongside professionals in Jute Theatre’s production of Macbeth.
Jute’s Artistic Director and CEO Suellen Maunder said the Theatre had received funding from the Regional Arts Development Fund (RADF) through Cairns Regional Council for five young people from the regional community to participate in an adaptation of the classic Macbeth, by Scott Witt.
“Apart from performing alongside five professional actors, the young people will learn about the mechanics of professional theatre, the role of the director, set and light designers, production and stage managers and how they all interact to create a show. They will also gain skills in acting technique and stage combat and clowning,” Ms Maunder said.
“This opportunity is open to anyone between 16-26 years who have a desire to learn about theatre. The young people will be chosen through a week long audition/workshop process and must be available for the production in February and March 2010.”
Auditions will be held from Monday to Friday, 23-27 November, 9.30am-4pm at the Jute Rehearsal Studio, Centre of Contemporary Arts, 96 Abbott St, Cairns.
