Peter Farrelly’s Ricky Stanicky follows three childhood friends who create a fictitious character to get them out of sticky situations. When their partners become suspicious, they’re forced to hire a washed-up actor to bring him to life with dire, yet hilarious consequences.
Zac Efron, Andrew Santino, and Jermaine Fowler lead the cast as childhood friends Dean, JT, and Wes, while John Cena portrays celebrity impersonator “Rock Hard” Rod who is hired by the trio to impersonate their fictional friend. The film also features William H. Macy, Lex Scott Davis, and Anja Savcic.
Farrelly wrote the screenplay alongside Jeff Bushell, Brian Jarvis, James Lee Freeman, Pete Jones, and Mike Cerrone.
Australian producer Paul Currie, known for Hacksaw Ridge, produced the film with Thorsten Schumacher, John Jacobs, and Michael De Luca.
CAA Media Finance is representing the US rights, while Schumacher’s Rocket Science is handling the international rights on the picture.
The comedy was filmed in Melbourne at the beginning of last year with support from the Federal Government’s Location Incentive and the Victorian Government’s Victorian Screen Incentive.
It will premiere globally on Prime Video March 7.
