Wanted: Someone with extensive experience in executive roles in distribution, marketing and business, who has a high level of commercial skill and knowledge.
Salary: $200,000 per annum for a three-year contract.
That’s the job description for the new role of head of business and audience at Screen Australia.
The agency created that department in the recent restructure after abolishing the marketing and state and industry programs units.
CEO Graeme Mason is acting head of the section, which combines the teams from marketing, communications and state and industry partnerships including the Enterprise program.
Calling for applications on its website, Screen Australia says, “You will implement strategic initiatives to increase the accessibility and visibility of Australian screen content and take a proactive approach to talent and business development in domestic and international areas.
“Leading a team of specialists, you will have overall responsibility for Screen Australia’s marketing and festivals programs, distribution and enterprise initiatives as well as the recoupment and disbursement function.
“This is a fast-paced, hands-on role. To be successful, you will require extensive experience in significant executive roles in distribution, marketing and business facilitation which demonstrate high levels of commercial skills and knowledge. You will also possess an up-to-date knowledge of the changing nature of the Australian and international screen industry, and evolving financing and distribution models.
“This is a key senior leadership position. Exceptional people management skills as well as leadership experience, with proven ability to inspire, engage and motivate a team are essential.”
Perhaps acknowledging the position could be subject to industry scrutiny and criticism, the agency says the successful applicant must show “personal courage and can take unpopular decisions when appropriate.”
It’s likely that $200K a year will buy a fair amount of grit and courage. Screen Australia is also seeking a senior lawyer and a lawyer.
Applications close on October 13. Candidates should form a queue behind me.
