Social TV app zeebox Australia has struck a deal with Foxtel, bringing the pay-TV provider's programs to its platform.
zeebox partnered with free-to-air Network Ten for its Australian launch last November and the app has been downloaded more than 350,000 times, according to Network Ten chief operating officer, Jon Marquard.
The zeebox app provides consumers with a social TV discovery and interaction service, while enabling broadcasters and brands to engage with TV fans. It is attempting to become a universal social media app unlike rivals from Seven (which offers its own Fango app) and Nine (which offers its Jump-in app).
The zeebox-Foxtel partnership marks the first time that the Foxtel line-up has been included in a 'second-screen' Australian app.
zeebox users will soon be able to remote control and remote record shows using the zeebox app on Foxtel iQ set-top boxes while zeebox and Foxtel friends will also be able to chat and interact using the app. It will also allow advertisers to engage zeebox audiences with content synchronized with their TV ad broadcasts.
