The St Kilda Film Festival has announced the winners of the 2015 SoundKILDA competition with Samuel Lewis taking out the top prize of Best Music Video for his directorial debut on Elliot the Bull’s Colourblind, a stop-motion animation featuring two geometric wooden characters.
This year’s SoundKILDA competition showcased Australia’s top creative collaborations with eighteen clips from local and international musicians created by some of the countries most talented filmmakers.
Best Cinematography was awarded to Lucas Thyer for a clip shot in Tasmania’s Central Highlands for Russell Morris’s song Van Diemen’s Land and David Blyth took home the Craft Award for an artistic video shot in Melbourne for his own song, So-So.
Other highlight collaborations included; director Jack Peddy with Client Liaison, director Nash Edgerton with Bob Dylan, director Charlie Ford with Courtney Barnett, director Tom White with Guy Pearce and director Jonathon Chong with John Butler Trio.
City of Port Phillip Mayor, Cr Amanda Stevens says the SoundKILDA competition highlights the important role that music plays in the world of film.
“SoundKILDA is an important part of the St Kilda Film Festival program because it celebrates collaborative works between music and film talent and we congratulate the 2015 SoundKILDA winners,” said Cr Stevens.
Missy Higgins, Jamie Blanks (Director; Urban Legend, Valentine) and Natasha Pincus (Gotye’s Somebody That I Used to Know video) featured as SoundKILDA judges this year, evaluating each video on a number of key considerations.
St Kilda Film Festival Director, Paul Harris said SoundKILDA provides the film and music industry a valuable platform to recognise talent and audiences enjoy it every year.
“We are happy to see the calibre of the competition strengthening every year and the winners set themselves apart with their creative flair and detailed craftsmanship.
“Since introducing SoundKILDA as an element of the Festival 13 years ago, it has proved to be a program highlight where audiences can experience music videos in the best way – on the big screen,” said Mr Harris.
