Screen Producers Australia has launched a producer accreditation scheme.
The S.P.A. Producer Accreditation Scheme aims to recognise contribution that producers make in delivering screen content and has been adapted from a similar scheme operated by the Producers Guild of America.
The genres included in the scheme are feature film, television drama and documentary.
The accreditation system will eventually be expanded to include all other forms of production, including multimedia and interactive, and other types of producer roles after further consultation.
The Scheme offers the accreditation S.P.A. mark for producers to include in the screen credits as an acknowledgement of her or his role and contribution, is referenced when classifying eligible producers for inclusion in the Screen Producers Australia Awards* and can assist in mediation of credit disputes.
The S.P.A. acronym is offered to producer/s lodging the Levy Request for Information Form (RFI) for members or the Notice of Producer Credit Form for non-members for their feature film, documentary or television drama production with Screen Producers Australia.
The Scheme coincides with the introduction of a new strand of professional development courses aimed at early career and emerging producers, which will sit alongside Screen Producers Australia’s existing Ones To Watch mentoring program and its Master Class and Business Class series that bring together more experienced industry leaders.
Screen Producers Australia chief exectutive, Matthew Deaner, said the scheme was an important recognition of the diverse and challenging role that producers have in producing great Australian screen stories.
"Accreditation is open to all producers in Australia and will be used to classify eligible producers for inclusion in awards, assist in mediation of credit disputes and make available an accreditation mark for producers to include alongside their screen credit," he said.
“Screen Producers Australia has strong networks and associations with other producing organisations globally and for those who have the formal accreditation we offer, will find that this enhances their reputation and professional regard.”
Deaner said The S.P.A. Producer Accreditation Scheme reflected SPA's ongoing commitment to creating a strong and healthy industry.
