Disney's live-action remake of The Jungle Book debuted at 287 locations last week and easily won the weekend, ringing up around $6 million from Thursday to Sunday to bring its total takings so far to $10.5 million.

Jon Favreau's film managed to appeal to adults as well as families, tapping into the nostalgia factor as well as capitalising on strong reviews.

Melissa McCarthy's latest hit, The Boss, received no such help from the critics but continued her winning run at the BO.

The comedy, directed by McCarthy's husband and fellow Groundlings grad Ben Falcone, debuted on 242 screens and pulled in $2.1 million.

Third best was eOne's Allegiant: Part 1, which took in slightly less over the weekend than The Boss but made more overall in its first week to be sitting on $2.3 million.

Occupying the most number of screens (304) in the country is Disney's Zootopia, which dropped only twenty-nine percent in its fifth week to rake in more than $1.8 million over the weekend. The critically acclaimed toon has made over $23 million so far.

Dropping more precipitously was Huntsman: Winter's War, which was down fifty-nine percent in its second week for weekend takings of $1.2 million, bringing its cume to $4.8 million.

WB's Batman V Superman has made $28.2 million after four weeks, while Fox's Kung Fu Panda 3 has pulled in $10.8 million in the same period.

Those margins might look wide but they're getting closer the longer the films are in release. Batman V Superman made $984,361 this weekend, while Kung Fu Panda 3 raked in $890,608.

Universal's My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2 was next best, and has made $13.6 million after four weeks.

Rounding out the top ten were Theri, an Indian thriller on 17 screens with the highest per-cinema average ($17,989 avg/loc) after The Jungle Book

Theri has made $305,807 in a week, while Fan, starring Shah Rukh Khan, debuted on 36 screens and raked in $301,924 to come in at number ten at the local BO.

Best of the Aussie bunch was Jennifer Peedom's Sherpa, which is on 36 screens in its third week and dropped ten percent over the weekend to score $113,154, bringing its cume to $704,754.

Simon Stone's The Daughter is still on 55 screens after five weeks, and made $68,306 over the weekend. The Roadshow release has now passed $1.5 million at the local box office.
