Filmscope Entertainment (Filmscope) are excited to announce that their crime thriller, THE RECKONING, is being launched across Australia September 17 on key VOD platforms including iTunes, Foxtel On-Demand, Google Play Movies, Big Pond Movies, Fetch TV, Quickflix Streaming and Foxtel Presto.
In addition the DVD and Blu-Ray will be available the same day through JB Hi Fi, Hoyts Kiosk, Civic Video, Video-Ezy, Blockbuster, Sanity, Quickflix and others.
The Producer, Deidre Kitcher, noted “We feel that the best way to capitalize on the momentum that we have built from advertising, publicity and promotion of our theatrical release is to have an accelerated release on VOD and DVD. We formulated this strategy with our distributor, SC Movies, as we wanted to make our film available to all Australians as widely and quickly as possible. It will be interesting to compare the results of our accelerated home entertainment release against standard industry practices.”
In addition Filmscope are very pleased to announce that The Reckoning has gained official selection to the 16th Rencontres Internationales du Cinema des Antipodes Film Festival to be held 13th to 19th October in Saint Tropez, France.
John V. Soto commented “It’s an honor to have our film selected for this prestigious festival and we can’t wait to show our movie to French audiences. I’m very proud of the hard work our wonderfully talented cast and crew have put in to create this film. I’m also impressed with their selectors, clearly they have good taste.”
The Reckoning has garnered good reviews from the media including The Sunday Times (Gavin Bond) in Perth who praised the film as “an accomplished, refreshingly gritty and thoroughly entertaining thriller.”, FilmInk (Erin Free), “Writer/Director John V. Soto delivers his best film yet with this tight, taut and compelling thriller”, The Age (Philippa Hawker) “an intriguing thriller that interweaves two accounts of guilt and revelation”, UrbanCinefile (Andrew Urban) “A strong screenplay coupled with an interesting cinematic structure and great images make this an engaging film with tension and texture” and Who Weekly (Andiee Paviour) “From seemingly foreseeable beginnings, his deceptive screenplay ricochets through a bloodied thicket of hoops that one by one call everyone’s integrity to account. Prepare to be unprepared.”
The film is a fast paced crime thriller and stars a great lineup of Aussie acting talent including Jonathan LaPaglia (Love Child), Luke Hemsworth (Infini, Kill Me Three Times), Hanna Mangan-Lawrence (X, The Reach), Viva Bianca (Spartacus) and Alex Williams (Paper Planes).
The Reckoning was recently selected for the lineup at The British Independent Film Festival where it won Best Music for Composer Thomas Rouch and Best Director for John V. Soto. The movie was written and directed by John V. Soto with Jason Thomas as DOP, Regg Skwarko as Editor and Composer Thomas Rouch handling the score. The film was produced by Filmscope’s Deidre Kitcher and has already been sold in over 40 countries worldwide. The Reckoning is about a detective who must track down two runaway teenagers whose video footage contains the identity of a killer.
The Reckoning was produced and developed with the assistance of ScreenWest and LotteryWest.
