The Rum Diary, based on a novel by Hunter S. Thompson, tells the story of freelance journalist Paul Kemp who finds himself at a critical turning point in his life while writing for a run-down newspaper in the Caribbean. Paul is challenged on many levels as he tries to carve out a more secure niche for himself amidst a group of lost souls all bent on self-destruction.
The film stars Johnny Depp, Aaron Eckhart – who was just announced as the lead in Stuart Beattie's new project I, Frankenstein (which will be shot in Australia in January) – Amber Heard, Michael Rispoli, Richard Jenkins, Giovanni Ribisi and Marshall Bell.
The FilmDistrict project will be released on October 28 in the US. No Australian date has been announced.
