Press release from WA Screen Academy
The program is now in the process of selecting candidates for 2010. Screen Academy Director, John Rapsey and Associate Director Andrew Lewis will be available to speak to potential applicants in Sydney from November 17th to 20th. John Rapsey will be available in Melbourne on November 21st and 22nd.
Now in its fifth year, the program is widely regarded as being one of the leading screen production training programs in Australia as the many nominations, awards and screenings in film festivals attest. It also has a remarkable record for employment of graduates. Currently, half of the key production crew on ‘Castaway’, a children’s series shooting in Broome, are graduates – including five of the seven directors.
The WA Screen Academy works in a unique collaboration with the WAAPA Acting, Production & Design and Music Composition programs to produce films of a very high standard shot in HD.
We are looking for talented, passionate and committed filmmakers in the following areas of specialisation: Producing, Directing, Writing, Cinematography, Editing and Sound. Students can select a major and up to two minor areas of specialisation.
There are two pathways into the program: the Bachelor of Communications Conversion course is for students with An Advanced Diploma from TAFE or equivalent; the Master of Professional Communication is for students with an undergraduate degree in a relevant field or five years of industry experience.
Students with a Diploma can qualify for the Bachelor of Communications Conversion program by enrolling in the Film and Video major at Edith Cowan University for
one semester.
The course is a very intense, one-year (40 weeks) experience in producing documentaries, short films, magazine/ lifestyle programs and web series shot multicam in a studio. Students typically complete the year with 8 – 12 significant credits on their showreel to present to potential employers.
Applicants are advised to submit an application form by November 30, 2009. Entry is competitive and requires a showreel/portfolio, a resume and a personal statement to be submitted by December 11, 2009. Shortlisted applicants will be interviewed. Late applications are accepted if places are available.
