WEST AUSTRALIAN SCREENWRITER GAINS HOLLYWOOD ATTENTION

Fremantle based filmmaker, Miley Tunnecliffe has placed in the top 5% of over 7500 unproduced screenplays entered in this year’s Academy Nicholl Fellowships with her road-trip comedy, Run Santos Run.

The Academy Nicholl Fellowships in Screenwriting, awarded annually by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and chaired by actress Annette Bening, is the world’s most esteemed screenwriting competition. Each year up to five $35,000 fellowships are awarded to promising screenwriters

Ms Tunnecliffe describes Run Santos Runas a uniquecross-cultural comedy set in Australia with a dysfunctional Argentinian family.

The competition recognition has drawn local and overseas interest for Ms Tunnecliffe: “Producers in both Australia and the UShave been in touch and are keen to read the script and hear aboutour other projects,” she said. “I’ve been heads down, developing and filming projects with my fantastic creative team here so to havethis distinctly Australian tale being received so well is an absolute honour.”

“Working and earning a living writing scripts in Los Angeles is my dream. I’ve spent some time there already and found it to be a competitive, but creative and encouraging environment. I’m looking forward to going over in the new year with the films we’re finishing up now and show what we’ve been doing here.”
