Press release from Foxtel
After its massive debut in the US last night, Foxtel announced today it has secured the rights to the much-hyped new drama series, BATES MOTEL. The series will have its Australian premiere on FOX8 on Sunday, May 26.
The one-hour drama series launched on America’s A&E Network last night and attracted an average three million viewers – 1.599 million viewers in the adults 18-49 demographic and 1.633 million in adults 25-54. These numbers make the series the most-watched original drama in the key demographics in the network’s history.
BATES MOTEL serves as a contemporary prequel to the genre-defining film, Alfred Hitchcock’s “Psycho,” and promises to give viewers an intimate portrayal of how Norman Bates’ psyche unravels through his teenage years.
Fans will have access to the dark, twisted backstory of Norman (Freddie Highmore) and learn first hand just how deeply intricate his relationship with his mother, Norma (Vera Farmiga), truly is and how she helped forge the most famous serial killer of them all.
BATES MOTEL is executive produced by Carlton Cuse ("Lost") and Kerry Ehrin ("Friday Night Lights"). The series also stars Max Thieriot, Nicola Peltz and Olivia Cooke.
