Playmaker heads ink deal with FremantleMedia Enterprises

Sydney independent media production company Playmaker is set to have its drama output launched globally by FremantleMedia Enterprises after a new multi-year deal was recently inked.

FME will work with the co-directors and former Fox TV Studios Australia heads David Taylor and David Maher to develop, fund and distribute its content around the world.

The deal will allow FME to have the first look on all scripted projects (part of their global drama strategy), which will also include projects to emanate from Playmaker’s SCRIBE program – an initiative to foster and develop writing talent backed by Screen Australia’s Enterprise program.

“Playmaker’s goal is to produce authored, distinctive and commercially-successful Australian drama. We’re absolutely thrilled to be working with the FME team in making that happen,” Taylor said in a statement.

FME is already working with the production company on multi-platform drama Slide – about five teenagers’ transition from school to adulthood – to be launched internationally later this year.

The newly-signed deal sits alongside a number of other Australian drama successes for FME, such as The Strip which has sold to more than 25 countries including the US, France and China.
